Jim Napoli

Senior Spatial Wildfire Analyst
Jim leads Pyrologix’s LANDFIRE-based fuel mapping practice, which has become a “shadow LANDFIRE” that feeds information back to the LANDFIRE program. Jim joined Pyrologix in early 2019 after spending more than a decade with the LANDFIRE fuels team. He has 15 years of experience in wildfire research, development, and application, with 20-plus years of experience as a GIS and database programmer/analyst. His wildfire and spatial analysis expertise is grounded in previous positions with LANDFIRE and the National Park Service. Past research work includes leveraging spatial analysis techniques to develop data processing tools for landscape- to national-scale projects; development of canopy fuels modeling techniques for LANDFIRE and coordinating the development of a multi-agency fire geospatial data layer for the Greater Yellowstone Area. He recently worked with Texas A&M Forest Service to map fuel and fire behavior across Texas at 10-m resolution. Jim earned his B.S. in Geography/GIS from the Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. in Geography/GIS from Northern Illinois University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Montana.
