Ethan Yackulic
FVS Specialist
Ethan is a researcher in ecoinformatics whose current work focuses on measuring and monitoring forest carbon. Quantifying ecosystem responses to changes in climate and land use has been a consistent theme across his education, first studying Quaternary limnology at Bates College, before pursuing a Masters at Northern Arizona University where he developed novel algorithms for quantifying chlorophyll content from hyperspectral images of sediment cores. After a two year stint with the U.S. Geological Survey, Ethan returned to Northern Arizona University to pursue a PhD in informatics. His research includes an ongoing collaboration with the New Zealand government to determine the effects of human occupation on modern water quality. Ethan also has spent extensive time monitoring native fish populations in the Grand Canyon, and when not at his desk, he is likely to be found situated precariously on the edge of a trail or the end of a rope in the vast, rugged Southwest.
