Vibrant Planet is facilitating the synthesis of North Yuba Forest Partnership’s project goals with its rich datasets into decision support tools for environmental analysis through implementation across 275,000 acres of private and National Forest System lands. Tasks include stakeholder engagement, collaborator coordination, current forest condition assessments, desired condition and treatment objective development, project design and prioritization, as well as data management and delivery. The project began in 2019 and Vibrant Planet will continue to support this long term effort through, at least, 2021.
In collaboration with 34 North, Vibrant Planet is preparing a Forest Health Assessment for the Middle Truckee River Watershed spanning Eastern California and Western Nevada. The assessment is composed of high fidelity modeling and a collaborative quantitative wildfire risk and prescribed fire opportunity analysis process with the Truckee River Watershed Council, landowners, and stakeholders across 313,000 acres. Project development includes quantifying and mapping baseline conditions incorporating parcel ownership, develop and application of forest and community resilience indicators, desired condition cultivation, and ultimately a treatment matrix based on the existing condition departure from desired conditions. Deliverables also include community outreach, data delivery on the 34 North spatial repository, and treatment prioritization optimization. The project began in the summer of 2020 and is expected to conclude in the summer of 2021.
